May 2020

Record (13-15)

Top Hitter- Kolten Wong After missing most of April with a fractured foot the second baseman returned with a flurry. Wong went 29/73 .397, 3 HR, 8 RBI, including a ridiculous .450 OBP over a 17 game span. Wong has secured the job of the everyday leadoff hitter.

Top Pitcher- Carlos Martinez Carlos continues to be one of the early top pitchers in baseball since the start of 2020. This is the second straight player of the month honor for the righty. In May he went 4-1 (2.45 ERA) over 33 innings. Also equaled his previous month WAR of 1.2

Team Overview- The Cardinals took a step back during the second full month of the season. It was a narrow extra-inning loss that avoided that .500 mark. The offense struggled to put runs on the board in most of those 15 losses. In 12 of the 15, the bats scored 3 runs or less.

GM Jonathan Ferguson Thoughts- "It was a frustrating month for the club. It just seems like we couldn't get the big hit in the early to middle stages of the game to get us going. The middle of the order wasn't able to give us that much-needed production. We stranded Red Birds all over the bases. If I'm honest I'm shocked that the power numbers are down to this point. However, the feeling inside the clubhouse is still extremely positive. In most cases, I like it when it's easy to identify the issue. When you look around and have multiple unknowns that it becomes terrifying."
