August 2020
Record (12-13)
Top Hitter- Hanser Alberto Alberto has been so steady during his first Cardinal season. He put together his best month of the year in August. His .369 (38 for 103) was tops for his season. He also put together season highs in HR (7), RBI (30), and OBP (.391). Alberto is was able to help the offense stay afloat during a difficult month.
Top Pitcher- David Price
Price was brilliant for the month. He went 2-2 with a 2.97 ERA in 33 innings. For the month of August, he only allowed 11 earned runs in 5 starts. His 6.6 inning average per start was exactly what the Cardinals had in mind when acquiring the veteran lefthander.
Team Overview- August was a difficult month inside the division. They went just .500 (10/10) to keep the other teams much in the division race. It was the 2-6 record against the Pittsburgh Pirates that did the most harm to the standings. The Cubs were able to cut the lead from 7 1/2 to 3 1/2 going into the final month. The organization has already called up their two top 'ready-made' hitting prospects in OF Dylan Carlson and C Andrew Knizner. September also brings roster expansion. The rumblings are that the team will bring in both an arm and bat into the mix.
GM Jonathan Ferguson Thoughts- "I would say the month of August was the most difficult to understand. The opportunity to get some separation was right there for the taking. We didn't capitalize. I will say that winning a division crown is almost never easy. I wouldn't trade our spot with anyone else right now."
