Cardinals send Meadows to Red Sox

(FTD, St. Louis)

The Cardinals and the Red Sox were able to get together to make a big move today. OF Austin Meadows, played a key role in helping lead St. Louis to a division title after coming from Atlanta last season. "Austin was such a good pick up last season. He was able to check every box we needed last season" said GM Ferguson.

Meadows 30, was involved with a 5 man rotation in a talented Cardinals Outfield and the organization decided to go in another direction. "We just thought it was time to stabilize some of our younger guys. Austin was a great Cardinal during his short time here, it was a difficult decision" continued Ferguson.

The Cardinals were able to add 188 Career Saves, 2-time All-Star, AL Reliever of the Year, and FTD Champion in Matt Barnes. Barnes will work with Chad Green to fill the back end of the Cardinal bullpen. "After losing Kimbrell to Free Agency, we've been keeping an eye on the Closer slot. The addition of Matt gives us a proven veteran that has pitched in tons of big-time ball games. Chad has been fabulous in that role to this point. However, he's coming off a major arm injury and we just didn't think it was wise to add those high leverage situations for the entire calendar year."

First Baseman Blaze Jordan 23, will also be heading to St. Louis as the second piece to the deal. The 8th pick of the 2020 FTD Draft by the San Diego Padres. Jordan, known for his elite power has spent most of his professional career working up through the minor league system. He was dealt by the Padres in the Chris Sale trade last season. Blaze was able to make two brief stints with the Boston Red Sox in both 2026 and this season. However, the Cardinals GM has some different plans for the young slugger. "We're going to have him make quick progressions through our system to continue his development. He's going to join our high A team in Palm Beach. We're not putting any pressure on the kid, he'll get time to work with our guys."

Matt Barnes was placed on both the 40-Man Roster and the Active Roster. He'll join the in St. Louis for the final game of the Phillies series.
