$44,500,000 Lands 1B Murphy for Cardinals

Monday, December 7th, 2020

A wave of jubilation swept over St. Louis today as fans and team officials celebrated the signing of Daniel Murphy.

Arguably the top Free agent hitter has signed a 3-year contract worth 44 million dollars (34 guaranteed). Murphy finished second in all of baseball for batting average after posting his .344 mark. The 35-year-old Murphy brings so many intangibles to a clubhouse that Cardinals GM Jonathan Ferguson just couldn't pass it up. "Daniel was our top target. It wasn't even that close. We didn't even explore another option. To us, he's the total package in terms of fit inside our organization. He checks all the boxes. If you look closely at his numbers you'll see that he actually put up comparable stats away from Coors Field. Daniel wakes up hitting." said Ferguson.

Murphy has a reputation of being the ultimate leader that will mesh wonderfully with the current Cardinals roster. "He possesses the intangibles we wanted with this specific addition. People rave about Murph as a teammate. That is a huge emphasis in how we want to do things inside our organization. It's without question a pride point."

The signing was a relatively quick process and that wasn't a coincidence said, Murphy. "When they reached out I got really fired up. I've always had a high level of respect watching the organization from afar. The talks were really good. We both value the same things from this game. It was an easy decision." said Murphy.

His all-time numbers show Murphy has compiled a .302 batting average and collected 1752 hits, 149 home runs and 817 RBIs.
