The news broke after the tough 3-2 loss to rival Chicago that the club had decided to fire hitting coach, Jeff Albert. The offense is currently sitting 14th in the National League in runs scored, and every other hitting statistic sits in double digits rank. "We have been pretty brutal, the emphasis on certain aspects has made the product bad. It needed a new focus" said Ferguson. The rumors of discussions of going in another direction before the season and those flames continued to get bigger. It's been announced that veteran Tony Pena has been tagged the next man up. "We had good discussions in what we're trying to get accomplished here. Tony has worlds of knowledge he acquired in both his playing and coaching days. He's played for this organization. He knows how we want to play the game, it's not negotiable." said Manager Mike Shildt. Pena has signed a two-year deal and will join the club in Los Angeles.
