(FTD, St. Louis)
Randy Flores was named the Cardinals Director of Scouting on August 28, 2015. Flores oversees all aspects of the scouting department including the amateur draft. He signed a long term deal to keep him in St. Louis until at least 2024.
Flores, 45, was part of the Cardinals 2006 World Series Championship team and spent eight seasons in the Majors. The left-hander played for St. Louis from 2004-2008, appearing in over 200 games as a relief pitcher. Drafted by the New York Yankees in the 9th round of the 1997 amateur draft, Flores made his debut in 2002 with Texas and also saw big league action with Colorado (2002, 2009-10) and Minnesota (2010).
His resume of prospects both drafted and found is growing by the day. Some of those include Dylan Carlson, Nolan Gorman, Dakota Hudson, and Pete Crow-Armstrong. However, it should be noted of the type of offseason Flores is putting together before the 2021 season. 16-year-old Cuban grown player Vic Mendoza has the makings of really good talent. Then he'd find Manny De Jesus out of the Dominican Republic. He's a player that can play basically anywhere on the diamond. Then most recently added another versatile Venezuelan player 16-year-old Angelo Pedroza.
"We've had a good offseason. The talent we've found has a chance to be solid in the future. These kids have loads of potential, it should be fun to watch them progress." said Flores. I live for this stuff. The amount of time traveling can get difficult, but it's fun." One wished to be unnamed General Manager told us the Robert Flores is "proving to be an elite scout. You look at his track record combined with his limited time at the position. It's pretty scary. Just impressive."
