The Cardinals drafted 18-year-old Outfielder Tyree Reed out of Vallejo, California. The 6-2, 181-pound left-handed hitter has loud tools and lots of physical projection. He displays solid potential at the plate, possessing more of a line-drive approach right now with plenty of room to add power as he matures physically. He slashed .353/.421/.353 as part of a talented MLB Breakthrough Series club at last October’s WWBA Underclass World Championship that battled to the semi-finals. The Oregon State commit, was the top outfield prospect on the St. Louis draft board. "We had Tyree ranked extremely high in our future projections. He's a prospect with tremendous upside at premiere position (Center Field), said the Cardinals General Manager Jonathan Ferguson.

The word is the Cardinals front office has placed the Curtis Granderson comp on Reed. They see him as a plus fielder at all three OF spots. With a long and projectable frame and some track record for high-level performance already, the organization just viewed Reed as a top 15 guy. "We actually slotted Reed as our #2 overall prospect on what we viewed as a realistic draft board for us at #20. In most draft mocks they had him going much earlier, but we put his name down as a guy we'd grab if available", said Ferguson.

As the names started coming off the board the organization started to become more and more excited at the possibility of Reed falling to them. "It was nervous times with each pick. We wanted this one. It was another great day to be a Cardinal."

This is the second straight year the organization has taken a high school Outfielder. Pete Crow-Armstrong heard his name called in 2020 and has become one of the best prospects in all of baseball.
