Cardinals grant Dexter Fowler his outright release

The Cardinals made a difficult decision today as they granted Outfielder Dexter Fowler his outright release. Fowler 35, signed a 5 year, 82.5 million dollar deal with St. Louis after his 2016 season.

Fowler who had been a full-time player before 2020 has seen his playing time decrease. He filled his part-time role in 2020 exceptionally. However after a rough spring the Cardinals decided to go with Tyler O'Neill for the 26th roster spot. "We talked and he's a total professional. He wanted a chance to catch on somewhere else and maybe play. It was nothing personal here. Dex was a big part of our Championship last season. The organization wishes him nothing but the best", said the Cardinals General Manager.
