(FTD, St. Louis) Jack Flaherty has won the National League Cy Young award. Flaherty becomes the first Cardinal to win the award since Chris Carpenter in 2005. This is only the fourth time in the long storied franchise has brought home the honor. Hall of Famer Bob Gibson was the only two-time winner for the organization in 1968 & 1970. Flaherty would finish 2020 with 33 GS,19-9, 2.98 ERA, 196.1 innings, 141 Hits (.199), 65 Earned Runs, 251K/60BB, 6.0 WAR, 1.02 WHIP He put the team on his back and came through with masterful performances consistently. The 25-year-old now becomes the youngest in Franchise history to win the prestigious award. While his postseason didn't go as planned the Cardinals General Manager is quick to note the greatness. "That guy pitched in so many big situations, innings, games for 33 games during the regular season. It's still very early in his career and he's still having to adjust to the number of pitches/innings in a season. We aren't even in the postseason without him. So it'll be ok. What I saw was a group rally around their leader and let him know they had his back." said Jonathan Ferguson. Flaherty would receive all first-place votes to win the award over Washington National's Max Sherzer. He also was the only pitcher to break inside the Top 10 in the Most Valuable Player voting. He finished 6th with 217 total votes
