June 2020
Record (17-9)
Top Hitter- Harrison Bader
Harrison put in some serious work for a second straight month. This time he was able to hold off Kolten Wong to win honors. Bader hit .318 (27/85), .368 OBP, 3 HR's, 13 RBI's for June.
Top Pitcher- Daniel Ponce de Leon
While Jack Flaherty put up unbelievable numbers for the month (4-1,2.29) the award went to Ponce de Leon. The main reason was his emergency entrance into the rotation after the Kwang-Hyun Kim injury (Elbow strain). He went 4-0 with a 3.60 ERA in 25 innings.
Team Overview- The Cardinals were able to respond from their worst month to the best one. This included series wins over division leaders Colorado Rockies & Boston Red Sox at the given game dates. The home sweep over the Rockies was one that gave the team some real life to finish 8-4 for the month.
GM Jonathan Ferguson Thoughts- "I was very proud of the club. We faced a bunch of adversity with some nagging key injuries, and the slumping middle of the order that still hasn't provided us much production. For the guys to start 5-4 and then finish 12-5 was strong. I give Mike (Shildt) credit for having them ready to battle. They were able to regain the division lead. The thing that excites me is the bats still haven't come close to where I think they'll be by seasons end. We know our pitching is our foundation, but we have some dudes that take serious pride with the bat."
