Jake Diekman claimed off Waivers from A's

May 24, 2021 The Cardinals made a move Monday claiming RP Jake Diekman from the Oakland Athletics. Diekman has produced a career 4.06 ERA in over 500 games (425 innings). The need to add an experienced reliever has been on the mind of the front office. "We've been viewing the landscape at multiple options. We really felt adding an experienced left handed reliever was needed. Diekman checked both those boxes", said GM Jonathan Ferguson. St. Louis will pick up his contract for the 2021 season listed around 4 million. The contract does include a team 2022 option in which he could return for the same amount. The only long-term loss will be Alex Reyes at 4 months (Torn Triceps). Reyes was putting up a monster 2021 season. His 1.10 ERA was among some of the best on the pitching staff. "I hate it for Alex.
