(FTD, St. Louis)

In a difficult, and emotional move the St. Louis Cardinals parted ways with longtime 2B Kolten Wong. The fan favorite that has provided many wonderful moments is heading to the Philadelphia Phillies. Wong the 2011 first round pick will finish his Cardinals 8 year-career with a 867 hits, a World Series, NLCS MVP, and gold glove.

"We can only say thank you so much to a guy like Kolten. He's meant so much to our Franchise. Wonger, will continue to be loved by Cardinal nation. We wish him nothing but the best in his future", said the St. Louis GM.

In the deal the Cardinals acquired the talented 21 year-old switch hitting shortstop prospect in Wenceel Perez. The St. Louis front office sees Perez as a guy that can play at the big league level for a long time. "We love his potential. He has a deep tool bag in things he can do on a baseball field. The plan is to slow him back down and let him develop. It was our view that he was being fast tracked a little too soon", said Ferguson.

The other terms in the deal will see the Cards ship veteran Reliever John Brebbia and will retain 50% of the remaining season on the Wong contract.
