(FTD, St. Louis)

The Cardinals took the 6'2" lefty Mason Montgomery out of Texas Tech. A three-year letterman for coach Matt Grissom at Leander High School in Leander, Texas. He was ranked as the No. 2 left-handed pitcher in the State of Texas and No. 9 overall prospect in the state for the class of 2018. Montgomery was drafted in the 39th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft by the Chicago White Sox before deciding to attend Texas Tech. He finished his career in Lubbock, Texas going 14-12 (3.87 ERA) in 36 starts. St. Louis raved about the velocity mix with the high three high level pitches from the left side. The concern with control is valid as he walked 138 hitters in 237 innings pitched. The hope is with some adjustments in his delivery he can clean up some of the control issues. PRO: Velocity, Elite Curveball potential CON: Control
