Max Muncy inks

Cardinals add their Top Free Agent Target

(FTD, St. Louis)

3/17/2023

The deal with Max Muncy got done late Friday night. In a major announcement, the Cardinals have signed the slugger to a one-year 32 Million dollar contract. The slugging Infielder is known for elite power and on-base numbers during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his 5 seasons, he hit 161 Homeruns and put up a ridiculous .373 OBP. Muncy suffered a torn PCL knee injury last season that cut his year short. Once he decided to walk from the Dodgers, he instantly became the top target for the Cardinals Organization.

"We were getting Max Muncy. He fits what we're trying to do inside our organization. The guy brings certain offensive elements we desire badly here" said St. Louis GM Jonathan Ferguson.

The organization went back and forth during their negotiations, but it was the mutual interest that got the deal done. "The Cardinals organization speaks for itself. I want to go help those guys get another Championship" said Muncy.

Muncy in 2021 posted career highs in Homeruns (49), Runs batted in (131), and WAR (4.7). He's now just four weeks away from being completely healthy, and the injury didn't play much of a factor in the overall tone of the contract. It was the proven production that Cardinals GM desired in St. Louis. "All the doctors signed off on him being completely ready to go. Max is a guy that is driven to be special at what he does. We have total confidence in him doing a ton of hitting for our lineup this season."
