Month in Review (April)

𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

April 2021

Record (15-10)

Top Hitter- LF Tommy Edman

Edman jumped out of the 2021 gate to lead the team in hitting for the month. His .356 (36 for 101) paced the Cardinals for one of their better hitting months in years. Edman's 36 hits ranked near the Top in all of baseball. He also posted team high's in OBP (.432), SLG (.545), WAR (1.5), SB (8), and OPS (.977) to name a few.

Top Pitcher- SP Miles Mikolas

Miles put together an excellent start for his 2021 campaign. He went 4-0 in 5 starts posting a 2.63 ERA. The most impressive stat was his 41 innings throughout the month. His 8.1 inning average/per start were easily tops on the staff. He also was able to do most of his damage on the road. The four road starts were also tops on the team.

National League Rookie of the Month- RF Dylan Carlson

The late 2020 Call up who took the league by storm last year has continued to impress. His 24 hits, 6 Home runs, and 19 RBI contributed to the Cardinals offensive success. The once top prospect in the Organization is living up to the hype surrounding him.

Team Overview- April was for the large part was a successful month. The pressure is clearly on this team after their 2020 World Championship. They will get everyone's best shot in 2021. The loss of SP Dakota Hudson left some real doubt in the rotation, but Miles Mikolas and Kwang-hyun Kim have carried the torch. Another interesting note of the 10 losses, the Cardinals were 0-4 in extra inning games. Both sides of the ball are clicking for the most part as a whole. Free Agent signings Tetsuto Yamada and Daniel Murphy were relatively quiet with their offensive production for month one. Those inside the organization have viewed that as a positive. In fact theirs a growing confidence of what this final product can be when those two take off.

GM Jonathan Ferguson Thoughts- "It was a fun month. It was a bummer to go winless in those extra inning ball games. We lost a few that they should've pulled out. We're still tinkering some things on the fly. However, I will say we're much further ahead in terms of being a finished product, opposed to 2020. I love the way these dudes compete. It's by far my favorite aspect of our guys. They typically bounce back with authority after a setback. Myself, Shildt, and the entire staff have a great open line of communication. It's a huge factor in our ability to be resilient."
