Max Muncy will make his anticipated season debut
(FTD, St. Louis)
The Cardinals offense will receive a much needed boost. Max Muncy is being called up after 8 games of a rehab assignment. He went 10/29 (.345), .500 OBP, and slugged for .517 during that stint.
The 3-time All-star Muncy who's has recovered from his torn PCL did strain his hip during the 5th game in Memphis (AAA). However, the organization feels its not something big enough to halt his return. "He's looked excellent at the dish. We need that bat in our lineup. He should help tremendously right away" said St. Louis Manager Mike Shildt.
Another vital bat will return in Outfielder Dylan Carlson. The 24-year old Carlson will assume his Right Field spot and take the leadoff role. It's something he's looking forward to, "I'm hungry man, this rib cage injury just kept lingering and it was annoying. I want to help my team" said Carlson.
This St. Louis offense has struggled to find any type of success for much of the first month of the season. To date they rank at the bottom half of the National League in almost every batting statistic. The news came out that hitting coach Joe Dillon has been relieved of his hitting coach duties.
The Cardinals moved quick on Joey DeMonte to fill the vacancy after seeing the Los Angeles Dodgers decide to let him go after ten games into the season. DeMonte filled that role from 2020-2023 and saw that offense filled with exceptional talent surpass the 900 run mark all three seasons. "It was nice to get the call from this organization. They have talent already in place and my job will be to get the most out of it" said DeMonte.
The move will also reunite him with Max Muncy who put together some huge seasons under his voice. "I was hyped to see them hire Joey D, he's my guy. That should be a good transition for both of us in a new place" said the smiling Muncy.
St. Louis currently sits at 14-15, and 2 Games behind the Reds for first place.
