Scott Hurst to make MLB Debut

April 22, 2023

(FTD, St. Louis)

The Cardinals lineup took another hit as it was announced Rookie Shortstop Weencel Perez was heading to the 10-day IL. This comes a few days after Right-Fielder Dylan Carlson made the trip there as well. Scott Hurst gets the call from AAA Memphis. Hurst 27, will finally get his call to the Major Leagues. The former 3rd round Draft pick in 2017 has been patiently waiting this day.

"I didn't know if it was ever going to happen. I've been waiting for this my entire life. It's a blessing" said the emotional Hurst. However, the Cardinals organization has always had it's eye on the versatile Outfielder. "We like Scott a bunch, he's been the guy that's been held back by our Outfield depth numbers. We're happy for him to be able to get this opportunity" said the St. Louis GM. Hurst inside the organization is known for his elite glove and ability to get on base. In his 6 years in the minors he has a career .370 OBP in 665 games played. The exact role for him isn't known at this moment.

The injury to Weencel Perez doesn't seem to be serious (Mild Hamstring Pull). "It was an injury we wanted to be cautious with. He probably could've tried to play through it, but we're not interested in this thing lingering all year."
