Building from within remains the goal

The St. Louis Cardinals farm system has been ranked in the Top 10 going on four years now. In 2022 for some time it reached the #1 spot. Catcher Andrew Knizner and 3B Nolan Gorman have made the jump to the Major Leagues with success. Knizner has now made back-to-back All-Star game trips and Gorman made a strong push for National League Rookie of the Year in his first season in 2022.

The influx will continue in 2023 as Catcher Ivan Herrera and Starting Pitcher Matt Liberatore will officially join the roster. Herrera made his debut last season during the September call-up period. "It was good to get him in some meaningful games down the stretch. He didn't have much success, but getting him some experience was key" said Cardinals manager Mike Schildt. The role for the FTD top Catching prospect will get real in 2023. He's will get the first shot at the starting job over the two-time All-Star Andrew Knizner. "I'm proud to get this opportunity. I grew up watching Yadi Molina, and he's helped me so much to get to this point. Kiz also has been like a brother to me in my development. That guy is there for me anytime I need him" said Herrera.

Meanwhile, heralded left-hander Matt Liberatore will make his MLB Debut the first time he steps on a mound in 2023. The solid top-100 prospect has all the tools to be a legit fixture inside a rotation. Liberatore provides a nice four-pitch mix that has provided the former 1st-round pick success in his path to the majors. His 5-year minor league career has been full of positive results with his highest ERA sitting at 3.66. "I'm ready to get my Major League career going. It's been a long journey and taking that mound for the St. Louis Cardinals will be a dream come true" said Liberatore.
